Arts Council Awards FOUR Emerging Artist Scholarships to GRHS Seniors

Arts Council's Nena Colligan and Barry Rubinow were proud to present a $500 Emerging Artist Award to each of our four deserving GRHS Seniors: Olivia Thompson, Giulia Beaudoin, Natalie Luftman and Richard Pucci at June 5's 2024 Awards Assembly at GRHS. Our recipients are passionate about what they do and where they’re headed.

STUDIO ARTS - OLIVIA THOMPSON - From an early age, illustrations in books and magazines sparked Olivia’s imagination, which is evident in her self-portraits, unusual mixed media, luminous charcoal imagery and other works. Her commitment and talent earned her the editor-in-chief role at the HS literary magazine Mobius this year, AND a paying job as the illustrator for a nonfiction children’s book. Olivia's pursuits in publishing and portraiture will continue at William Paterson University, where she plans to use her artistry to trigger that imagination spark in others.

PERFORMING ARTS - GIULIA BEAUDOIN - has used her considerable voice to sing… and to lead. Whether behind the scenes or performing, her interest in all aspects of musical theater and the performing arts helped her successfully take on leadership roles as stage manager and president of the GRHS Theatre Company as well as starring roles and noteworthy performances in Beauty and the Beast and countless vocal ensembles. Her dream of a future on Broadway will carry her forward at SUNY Fredonia.

ARTS CAREER - NATALIE LUFTMAN - is a meticulous designer, evident in her work and her attention to detail. Expressing a strong desire to study Architecture, she displays distinct elements in her art that convey emotion and help her create pieces with impact. Whether in ceramics, mixed media or photography, her art reflects dimension, precision and realism. These characteristics are a boon to her GR Softball pitching performance too, and will certainly help her design and plan houses, a goal she will pursue at the University of Maryland.

BARRY RUBINOW FILMMAKING - RICHARD PUCCI - Growing up, Richard was captivated by the electrifying energy of live broadcasts, especially those on ESPN. The vivid onscreen storytelling and the ability of commentators to effectively engage viewers inspired him to want to do the same. He will pursue this goal at Syracuse University, attending the Newhouse School Of Public Communications, majoring in Television, Radio, and Film.
