Artists of the Boro Calendar
June's "Summer Evening at the Glen Rock Fair," shot in 2017 by Yuliya Abova, was a perfect moment, waiting to be captured. "The colors in the sky were just breathtaking, the mood so festive and exciting, I couldn't pass it up," says Yuliya, a children's and family photographer since 2016.
"As a photographer, I always look for the perfect light. This was one of those times (while my kids were on a ride, ha!) when it was right there, ready for me to take in." A Glen Rocker for almost 10 years with a background in marketing, Yuliya started capturing things around her in high school, back in the time of film cameras and darkrooms. "I miss that so, so much!" she said. She didn't get into photographing people until her daughter, Sasha, was born. "Every little thing about her seemed so important, I had to capture it," she said. Slowly, this evolved into photographing friends and family, and then into her own business. Yuliya's artistic proclivities, although clearly focused on photography, also include an occasional paint night with friends, and "just about any craft project" when she has extra time. Participation in local exhibits earned Yuliya 3rd place in the Digital/Traditional photography category in November's Bergen County Art in the Park 2020 exhibit for her "Mme Eiffel,” “Dandelion” and “Reflections” entries.
